stupid stupid cat

so i'm talking on the phone with my mother, and the cat is hanging out on the bed with me. suddenly she freaks out and takes off. i get sprayed with something. it's pee.

the stupid stupid cat peed on my bed. she made a puddle on my pants, on the blanket, on the sheets, on the mattress.

stupid stupid cat.

i've never in my life appreciated the following "joke" as much as i do now:

what's the best thing about kicking a cat?

you're analogue!

i am very close to buying a digital camera.

i have been sick, so i've been cooped up in my apartment all day, sniffling and coughing. i wanted to get some air, so took a walk over to the new "Digital Town" building. it's basically a mall, with small booths selling things such as: cellphones with digital cameras built-in, vacuums, toasters, rice cookers, washing machines, flat-screen plasma televisions, blank cds, computers, vcds, portable cd players, portable mp3 players, stereos, film cameras, and of course, digital cameras.

it sits directly behind another such mall, called "Techno World", which is a little more established, as it has about 6 floors of the stuff. the former only has two.

the camera in question, for those of you who are interested, is the Olympus C-730 Ultra Zoom. It has a whopping 10x optical zoom. i played with the thing for a bit in the store. it's got a nice feel to it. the other good thing about it besides the zoom, is that it has a full manual mode, so i can play around with the shutter speed and f-stop.

the street price in toronto is $900. here, it's W690,000, which, depending on the exchange, is basically the same amount or just the slightest bit lower. but there's a catch: there is no sales tax here, at least, one that is added onto the advertised price. so rather than paying $1035, i'll be paying just the $900.

i'm tempted to go to two different vendors in each of the malls and play them off each other, to try to get a lower price. but i suck at korean, and i also feel bad for them, because the price isn't that bad, and really, they need to make living too. as long as i know i'm not getting ripped off, i'm happy to pay the W690,000.

the question is: when.

watch my back

they cut the cable.

i mean literally. the cable coming into my apartment has been physically cut. i have no idea why.

about two days ago i noticed that the cable tv was out. i had guessed that the cable was cancelled by the guy who used to live here. you see, the cable bill is autmatically paid every month, by someone's credit card. i figured, it was the guy who was living here before me. so i haven't been paying it since i got here. i supposed that he finally figured out that he was paying for cable tv in his old apartment, and had the whole thing cancelled or something.

but as i saw today, the black coaxial cable has been severed. it doesn't make sense why. there are two cables that run beside each other, the other going up to the apartment above mine. only mine was cut. and not mangled by something. cut with snips.

i've trying to think if i'd done anyone wrong. but i can't think of a soul. it's not like i know a lot of people in daejeon. so i can't help but have the feeling that someone is out to get me. it's stupid, but i feel it.

first they steal my bike. then they cut my cable. i'll probably end up paying for the service to have it reconnected.

and to top it all off, i'm sick again.

two turtle-necks and a beer

i have yet to remove the little, blue, bike-lock key from my key ring.

it mocks me.

i really do need a bike, but i just feel a little silly going out and spending the money again. i've got to find a used one.

there's a newspaper here that'll give you a free bike if you subscribe for a year. but a korean newspaper subscription does me no good, so this option is out.

i think i'll take the key off right now.

there once was a man from nantucket

looks good, eh?

i've spent maybe five or six hours trying to get this thing to look like it used to. and consistently. this blogging system is quite complex, and there are lots of details.

it's almost the same, but i've got the calendar and search, etc, boxes on the left. they came with the default site layout, but i decided to keep them because they are kinda useful.

other than that, life is good.

the work-week tends to go by quickly, and i'm doing more productive/entertaining things on the weekends. though, they tend to go by quickly too.

it's rainy outside. so i don't want to go anywhere. this is ok because i should clean my house anyway.

i've changed my holiday travel plans. we will go to hong kong for a few days, and then head off to shanghai. it will be a nine-day trip. we'll be back in time for a new year's bash, probably somewhere in seoul.

i'm hungry.

not sure if email notification is working either.

so the comments seem to broken.

if anyone is successful at adding comments, please let me know. you should be able to post anonymously.

new and improved! or, old and worsened?

if you are reading this, then my blog system migration has been successful.

i mean, i've switched webhosts, and cast off the blogger.com thing.

i'm now with clickhost, rather than doteasy and i'm using a very cool blogging tool called movable type (though, i would've named it "moveable type"), rather than the limited blogger.

as you may have noticed, the design is pretty basic. i haven't yet changed the templates, or added my own styles. it's just the default template. don't worry, i'll change it back to the old mag style, that is, if people liked it. you can cast your vote below by adding a comment.

notice that you can now comment. this is one of the main reasons i changed to movable type. i can also add send you emails letting you know when there are new entries (i know some of you are dying to know when things happen in my life).

as well, i may set up some magnetonic.org email addresses, for those of you who want to jump on the magnetonic bandwagon. i don't have tshirts or anything to sell you, but you can perhaps have your own magnetonic.org email address. as well, it is possible for me to create more users on this server, which basically means i can also host blogs for you, if you like.

other than that... you can see the old posts in the archives. more updates to the lookandfeel to come.

so i finally went to

so i finally went to seoul. my second cousin is here from DC to see her fiance. i was sitting here on my computer, and no one was online, and i was quite bored. i was maybe going to go shopping. then she, jean, came online. i asked her what she was going to do that day, and she said, not much. so i said, if i came up, would you want to hang out? i've basically never met her. she said, cool, and i quickly jumped on the next bus to seoul.

there are two bus terminals in gangnam. they are right beside each other, but you can't see one from the other. jean, her fiance, and his friend/student were in the lotteria in the other one. we spent about 10 minutes on our phones trying to find visible landmarks. at one point she was talking to me and i was listening, and we had actually walked right past each other in the parking lot. joe, her fiance, had seen me and was wondering if i was me, but i wasn't saying anything, so he wasn't sure. eventually we found each other.

anyway, we went to eat, and then went to apgujung-dong. it's billed as the 'rodeo drive' of seoul. it's not all that, but it's busy. it's like yorkville: expensive, trendy, and the girls are dressed to the nines.

we hung out there basically for the night. we had a coffee at a crazy expensive coffee shop, then went for drinks. i left around 10ish. i had a good time. besides, i thought it was neccessary to meet my cousin.

if we don't get to know each other now, while we're still young, it'd be much harder later in life. and she lives in DC, so it's even harder to meet.

also, i now have some acquaintances in seoul - her fiance and his friend. so far, he's a nice guy, and he offered to take me out when i go back up. his friend/student was nice too. she's really young though. only 19.

other than that, everything else is same old, say mold.
