rebel scum

I've just finished watching my shiny new Star Wars Trilogy DVDs. I watched 1½ episodes last night and the second 1½ episodes this morning. Yes, they are the so-called "Special Edition" versions, with fancy new special effects and a bunch of CGI scenes. But, I'm not a freak, so I don't mind that much. Anyway, I read somewhere that George himself doesn't like the originals because they weren't the films that he wanted to make in the sense that he couldn't do certain things, i.e. with the then-current technology. Whatever. It's fun.

The best part of it is... I got it cheap. ₩46,000 or CA$50.

down with IE!

There's not a really good reason to want to take a chunk out of Microsoft Internet Explorer's market share. Well, there is, I guess, if you dislike the company and their products and their heavy-handed "innovative" techniques of the past and present. And if you have an alternative that is quite the opposite of IE, that is, is secure, fast, cool, useful, free (as in beer AND speech), among others.

I'm using said alternative right now. It's called Firefox, from the Mozilla organisation. For whatever reasons, I'm now here to promote it. I feel like I should as a proud netizen (do people still use that term?). In any case, please click below and check it out. I'm sure you'll like it.

Get Firefox! Get Firefox! Get Firefox! Get Firefox! Get Firefox!

photos.magnetonic

So after much fiddling with subdomains, .htaccess files, and php file settings, I've got a brand new old thing for y'all. (Don't shoot me for saying "y'all." It just felt right.)

It's called, as you may have guessed, photos.magnetonic. It's old, as you've all seen it before, here: http://www.magnetonic.org/gallery.

But it's new because now you can see it here: http://photos.magnetonic.org.

The tradeoff is that the trailing part of the URLs are now long and ugly. For example, this: http://www.magnetonic.org/gallery/east_sea now looks like this: http://photos.magnetonic.org/view_album.php?set_albumName=east_sea.

Ah well. I wasted many hours trying to get it to work, so I'm gonna leave it for now.

some random quotes

I'm presenting some random quotes here for your reading pleasure.

These are things that I've come across this past week. The first two are from the movie Mystery Men, which I picked up on DVD for ten bucks yesterday.

"We've got a blind date with destiny! And it looks like she's ordered the lobster!" - The Shoveller

"We are number one! All others are number two or lower!" - The Sphinx

These next few are from the listening section of an English test that I administered to a class at work. If you've ever heard an instructional tape for learning English, or perhaps another language, just imagine the slow, awkward speech of the voice, er, talent. They definitely need lessons in voice acting.

The following exercise involved listening to a question and then of three responses, choosing the correct one. Only the humourous responses are included.

Question: Are you ok?
Response #1: Take me please!
Response #2: I think I am very special.

Question: Will you teach me to sing?
Response: I sing to make you angry.

The next part involved listening to a conversation and then answering questions about it.

Man: What are you doing?
Woman: I'm painting.
Man: What is it?
Woman: It's a snake.
Man: [very fake laugh] Ha ha! Snakes don't have feet, stupid!

minor report

I've done a minor upgrade to the back-end of the site. There's still more work to be done. But I don't have any solid plans yet.

In other news, the new job is going well. It's really easy. I have a maximum of six 40-minute classes a day. The average is four. I used to have four 80-minute classes a day, so you can see that I'm working much less. The bad part of it is, they really want me to be there from 3 pm until 9 pm regardless of whether or not I have class. So it's really boring a lot. But I'm getting paid so I try not to complain.

I don't have to wake up early, which is great. But I tend to wake up a little too late in the day to do anything useful before work.

So I'm doing it now, at 2 am.

dearly beloved

If i don't have your email address, or you've been under a rock somewhere, or playing Burnout 3 like I have been every possible waking moment, then you may not have heard the news.

I am getting married.

It will be here in Korea, on May 14, 2005.

There are not a lot of details to cover at this time, but I shall keep you informed.

It is now time to play Burnout 3 again. If you own an Xbox, get this game! Now.
